6 Reasons to Adopt a Dog
6 Reasons Why You Should Adopt a Dog
Dogs are popular pets. Many people around the world have them and there’s even a well-known phrase about owning them. A dog is a man’s best friend. But why is a dog a man’s best friend? What makes a dog and their owner such a good pair?
1. Unconditional Love
They love you completely. Unlike humans, dogs don’t judge you based on the color of your skin or how you dress. They love you just the way you are. A dog relies on its owner just like a child depends on their parent. They’ll stick with you until the end.
2. Beneficial to Your Physical and Mental Health
Dogs are good for both your physical health and your mental health. Simply playing with your dog can increase your serotonin and dopamine. Serotonin helps the body heal faster and helps you feel happier while dopamine helps you feel pleasure, satisfaction, and motivation. Dogs like walks, so you’re already being more physically active which benefits your physical health.
3. A Comforting Friend
They’re good at comforting you. Dogs aren’t oblivious to your emotions. When you’re happy, they’re happy. When you’re sad, they’re sad. They won’t just leave you alone in your sadness. Some dogs will stay close by as emotional support. Other dogs will give you kisses and try and wipe your tears.
4. Protection
Dogs will protect you. Some dogs warn you when people are nearby whether or not they intend to harm you. Other dogs will growl if they sense a threat or even bark at the neighbor’s dog to protect you and their home.
5. Socialization
Dogs help you socialize. Dog and owner bonds increase your social interactions. They also help boost your confidence. While bringing your dog around on trips and walks, people are sure to approach and talk to you. This can help you be more comfortable talking to strangers.
6. Responsibility
Owning a dog helps you become more responsible. As stated before, a dog and its owner are like a child and a parent. A dog relies on you for shelter, food, and medical help. You must buy them food from the pet store and bring them to the vet when needed. You also have to make sure your house is clean so they don’t chew anything up or harm themselves while roaming around.
So what’s stopping you from adopting a dog? They’ll love you unconditionally, keep you both physically and mentally healthy, and they’ll do their best to comfort you. You won’t be alone as long as you have a dog with you.
