As high schoolers we all find ourselves in the middle of the night, burning our eyes trying to get assignments done, meet deadlines, and prepare for exams. However, it’s important to remember that adequate rest is vital for our future success.

Taking that into account, this is where we introduce: “Naps”. A nap is a short period of sleep usually lasting 20-30 minutes, providing a significant boost of energy, focus, and overall cognition for ourselves. Research shows that taking a nap can magnify creativity, improve memory retention, and even reduce stress levels, which is often a common problem for students.

Now, why do we need naps at MIT? Well, a school day can be physically, mentally, and emotionally draining. We have to go through long lectures, sitting for hours in the same chair. We have to participate in discussions, take notes, and complete assignments, while trying to stay engaged and focused. This is where the power of napping comes in. A midday nap can give students a much-needed break from the mental pressure of the school day, allowing them to recharge their energy and get ready for the rest of the day’s activities.

However, taking naps at school is not workable for everyone. Some students may not have access to a restful and quiet zone to have a pleasant nap, while others may not have enough time in their schedules to take a rest. But, if you ever have the opportunity to take a nap at school, DO IT! It’s worth considering. It may be the boost you need to succeed in high school and the most important thing, feel your best.
