MITA High School for the first time ever had an official sports game representing our school. This is the first time we have had our own team, our own jerseys, and our own coaches. This is the beginning of a new era for sports at MITA.

Our first game was on December 12th at the Ira Jinkins Community Center. Even though we lost our first game, this has not diminished our spirit and there is still a lot of hope for the future. The score was Unity 61 – 31 Mare Island Technology. Our top scorer was Raylen Loudermilk with 16 points!

Our next upcoming games will be on December 16th at the Ira Jinkins Community Center against Impact academy. Then after the new year on January 6th, we will play at Golden State Prep.

Number (45) Senen Bagos shoots a freethrow against Unity as Ricardo Gomez (23), Salmaan Abdi(21), and Raylen Loudermilk(15) look on in MIT’s first ever CIF competition at Ira Jinkins Center in Oakland.

“This year we applied and got accepted to the Bay Area Charter Schools Athletic Conference (BACSAC)” said Chris Owens, our sports director. BACSAC is the Bay Area Charter Schools Athletic Conference and is a huge help to us with our sports. They are allowing us to participate in various sports which will be introduced in the near future. The other sports programs MITA will soon offer are Men’s/Women’s soccer, Men’s/Women’s Volleyball, and potentially an ultimate frisbee team.

There are many plans to turn the old Omega building (which is currently out of service) into a gymnasium for our school. The school also plans to create soccer fields on campus. But at the moment we are starting from the ground up and do not have many resources available. Despite the lack of resources, our coaches and faculty are doing their best to supply our students with the equipment they need in order to participate in the sports they want to play.

We are starting from humble beginnings with not many resources at our disposal, but our future in sports, not just basketball is bright. Although there is a bright future ahead of us we are still trying to encourage our students to participate in the sports they like and the school is hoping that more of you would sign up for its various teams.
