The girl’s basketball team for the 2022-2023 season has been canceled, though it will be returning next year. Here is more insight from Mr. Owens:

 “The athletic department entered fast into the conference, and I know promises were made in the past, but I don’t wanna give false hope. This department jumpstarted. The ultimate reason is just that it’s kind of last minute. It was an abrupt start and I’m grateful to the student athletes that came out to the girls basketball team. They learned about the sport for the brief time. If any of them should return, they’ll be a season wiser. I do remain hopeful since there has been a lot of interest in soccer. I look forward to continuing to build these sports out with the students, MIT personnel, and the families that want to see it happen.” Mr. Owens is very enthusiastic involving all students; it’s clear  that he wants to create an environment that welcomes anyone genuinely interested in sports. Looking back to the recent boys basketball game, it was indeed an intense game. A game where there were lots of cheers. Cheers that give out energy, love, support; wouldn’t you want to be the one being cheered for? “It is people playing a game and having fun,” added Mr. Owens, showing his dedication to elevating the passion for sports at MIT alive. He knows that it has been short notice for him to initiate and develop sports teams, though he is committed to making MIT athletic and creating a large sports community within the school.
